DJI Matrice 4E field operations during a TCAS mapping mission

What You Will Produce

A saved, reusable FlightHub 2 Area Route for a real site, with documented parameters and a coverage rationale.

Who This Is For

  • Operators planning mapping missions ad hoc in the field
  • Teams that need shared, repeatable mission plans

Prerequisites & Required Equipment

  • FlightHub 2 access with an M4E (the verified reference platform)

What You Will Learn

  • Creating an Area Route for the M4E with the Visible payload and Ortho Collection
  • Setting a target GSD — the TCAS reference plan used 2.0 cm/pixel, which calculated to 74.5 m AGL for that plan only
  • Why every altitude figure is job-dependent and never a universal number
  • Smart Oblique OFF for a straight ortho collection
  • Reference overlaps: side 80%, forward 85%
  • Speeds used on that reference plan: global 10 m/s, takeoff 15 m/s
  • Elevation Optimization ON, RTH configuration, and margin 0 m when the polygon already includes needed edge coverage
  • Timed Interval Shot, and saving/versioning the plan for repeat visits

Hands-On Assignment

Build and save a complete Area Route for a real site and write a short rationale for every parameter you set.

Required Final Deliverable / Success Criteria

  • Plan covers the full boundary with a justified margin
  • Parameters justified against the intended deliverable rather than copied
  • Plan saved and reusable for a repeat visit

Paid courses can include a TCAS Certificate of Completion. It is a course-completion credential documenting the workflow you finished and the deliverable you produced — it is not an FAA certificate, surveying license, engineering credential, or any regulatory or professional certification.

An RTK FIX status alone is not proof of validated absolute accuracy. Projects that require survey-grade or control-based accuracy need appropriate ground control, independent validation, and licensed professionals where legally required. Students are taught to distinguish visualization and photogrammetry products from products that require validated survey control or licensed professional sign-off.

TCAS training is independent professional-development training and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the FAA, DJI, QGIS, Blender, Cesium, Apple, or other manufacturers, software providers, or professional licensing boards unless expressly stated. Completion does not grant an FAA certificate, surveying license, engineering credential, or other professional license.
